Park Mudd is a wonderful Residential College that features the best living environment for Freshmen and Upperclass students! The Residential College is staffed by a full time Director (RCD), 12 RAs, a live in Faculty Fellow, Residential Peer Mentors for Writing, Math and Physics, and Chemistry, 2 Residential Peer Health Educators, 8 Student Associates, a Graduate Fellow, 4 Faculty Associates, and a wonderful College Council made up of residents from both Park and Mudd. The effect of having so many committed staff members in one area is tremendous. Our Freshmen residents in Park House enjoy the spacious 6 person suites that they live in. Community thrives here with the addition of community lounges on each floor. Our upperclass residents in Mudd enjoy even larger and more private suites; here they share 4 person suites with their own private common room. Many WashU students, especially those in Mudd, feel that these suites are some of the best on campus. Park freshmen have the luxury through the housing process of being able to enter a ResCollege lottery to live in Mudd before having compete with students from other areas. Aside from their nice, spacious living arrangements, Park Mudd’s 336 residents enjoy the best imaginable community experience. Each floor has a floor happy hour once a month where they engage the community around them and talk about issues important in their world such as Citizenship, Diversity Awareness, Interpersonal Skills, Personal Wellness, and Self Awareness. The ResCollege staffs boast a budget of around $20,000 to spend on educational and social programs and events throughout the year. Some of the traditions include Dinner Derby, StrengthsQuest, and Root Beer Float nights. Some highlighted programs include Battle of The Bands, a Hypnotist Show, and a photo booth at move in. In terms of their out-of-classroom experience, Park Mudd residents enjoy the best that the South 40 can offer. Park Mudd also has some great community space right under the same roof as the residents. Currently Mudd Commons, our main TV Lounge with leather furniture is regularly reserved by many student groups for programs and meetings adding to the flavor of the ResCollege. The Mudd Library is fantastic study space along with the 3 seminar/classrooms we have in house. Mudd also has the Mudd Multipurpose Room – the largest programming space on the South 40. Finally, Park House has four music rooms, 2 of which are unlocked for easy access 24 hours a day. A third music room is the home of the Performing Musicians Resource Group, a student group that brings bands together! CS40 also makes its home in Park House, providing just one more valuable, close-to-home, resource to our residents. Park/Mudd is one of five residential colleges with a live-in Faculty Fellow. The current Faculty Fellow is Dr. Joe Thompson from the English and African American Studies programs. Joe has been our Faculty Fellow now for two years and lives in Park House with his cat Tyson. The Faculty Fellow plays a key role in the Residential College through Faculty-programming. The idea here is that residents getting to know faculty outside of the classroom will help them make a stronger connection and feel more comfortable with their own faculty members. There are also faculty associates paired with each freshmen floor that spend time with residents at different events throughout the year.
