Office of Residential Life

Welcome to the Washington University's Office of Residential Life!  Washington University's Residential Life program consists of the South 40 and the North Side.  Over 4,000 students call Residential Life home during the school year. This includes five faculty families and 119 Resident Advisors. The South 40 is home to about 3000 undergraduate students. Nicknamed "the 40" because it is forty acres located directly South of the Danforth Campus, this space is home to twenty two Residence Halls, recreational space, computer clusters, three campus eateries, and much, much more. “The 40” is a place to study, sleep, eat, relax, and make new friendships.  Many of our upperclass students live on the North Side, which is located at the Northwest corner of the Danforth Campus.  The North Side consists of The Village and our on and off campus apartments.  Residential Life's guiding principles are Live. Learn. Lead.   More can be found out about our mission and guiding principles by clicking here.

The administrative hub of the South 40 is the Residential Life Center, located on the ground floor of the Nemerov House on Shepley Drive (Check the Map ). The office staff is available from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm daily. Please feel free to call us at 935-5050, or 1-800-243-1853 if you are outside of the St. Louis Metro area.  There is a satellite Residential Life Office on the North Side as well, in Village House.  Office hours for the Village Office are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm daily.
